French Tips
Sheer, warm-toned nails didn't disappear with summer — they picked up richer undertones. Worn as a French tip or a solid color, it's one of the few fall trends that doesn't require darkening your whole hand. 'A classic that never really goes out of style,' says Nina, a manicurist with 20 years behind the chair. 'Clients keep coming back to it no matter what else is trending.'

Burgundy
The September 2026 version leans darker and more saturated than past years. Who What Wear's beauty editor Sabrina Talbert names deep burgundy one of the five defining shades of the season — worn full, or layered under a chrome top coat. It photographs almost black indoors, then reveals its red undertone the second it catches daylight.
Try it at home: full color, or a chrome sweep on top for extra dimension.
Chrome Nails
Rather than a full metallic manicure, this fall's chrome shows up as a single accent nail or a subtle sweep over an existing color. Glam's September 2026 roundup calls it an easy way to give a manicure edge without much effort. It layers best over burnt orange, burgundy, or a plain sheer base.

Animal Print
'Animal print isn't for everyone, but who gets it gets it,' says Nina. Clients either ask for it by name every fall or steer away entirely. This season it shows up smaller and flatter than the bold all-over prints of past years — a single accent nail rather than a full graphic set. Pair it with a sheer milky base and a glossy top coat so the detail pops.
Try it at home: one accent nail (usually the ring finger) on a milky base.
Aura Nails
Aura nails keep getting revived instead of retired. This fall's version is less about a single soft halo and more about contrast — a diffused gradient paired with something crisper next to it. 'Velvet finishes give nails a richer look,' Nina notes. Sponge a light color into the center, add a velvet matte top coat over part of the design, and keep base tones deep: plum, chocolate, or forest green.

3D Nail Art
September's gel nails are less about a single finish and more about combining several in one set. InStyle's fall gel roundup calls out sets mixing intricate designs, 3D decals, and chrome finishes rather than one texture across all 10 nails. It's the most involved look on this list — most people book it in-salon, since layering a raised decal under a chrome sweep takes a steady hand.

Watercolor Nails
The blended, mosaic-style technique is bringing a different kind of client back to the chair, Nina says — people bored with their usual manicure who want something low-key rather than a full nail-art commitment. Pick two or three colors from the same seasonal palette, build the color with a makeup sponge, and keep the base coat sheer so the blend stays soft.

Olive Green
Forget the bright emerald from a couple of fall seasons ago — this year's green is muddier, closer to moss than jewel-tone. Celebrity manicurist Gina Eppolito told Marie Claire she's reaching for 'sultry, grounded hues' this season. In low light it barely reads as green at all — more like a warm gray with something going on underneath.
Try it at home: one muddy-moss coat, glossy or velvet finish.
Cobalt Blue
Cobalt has been building since Hailey Bieber stepped out with a rich blue manicure over the summer — and it works as a fall color because it doesn't ask you to abandon everything you liked about summer nails. The easiest entry point: a cobalt French tip. Keep the tip slim rather than the wide classic band — it reads more current and doesn't compete with the color underneath.

Coconut Nails
The milky, semi-sheer white manicure — named for the soft, opaque-white flesh of a coconut — is the low-maintenance neutral that carries straight from summer into fall.
